Many plants are very easy and simple to grow. You just need to keep the leftovers or the scraps and you will get an opportunity to produce a new crop. Don’t throw the leftovers away, keep the kitchen scraps and repopulate an abundant garden by using parts of the vegetable which is usually left behind.
We offer you a list of 5 vegetables you can grow indoors from scraps:
Ginger
The ginger is one of the easiest plants to grow indoors. All you need to do is to take a chunk of ginger from the kitchen scraps and place it into the soil. Make sure that the buds are facing up while growing. This plant doesn’t prefer direct sunlight, so keep it exposed to filtered light. When the plant develops sufficient growth, remove the plant from the soil and use it. Importantly, make sure you cut off a piece for re-planting.
Celery
Prior ripping off any stems simply cut off the base. About an inch or two would be okay. Put the base in a cup of water and watch as the celery re-grows. After couple of days you will notice fresh green growth coming out from the center. It is recommended to replace the water every couple of days and when the new growth has developed, put the growing celery into the garden or into a pot of soil in order to continue its development.
Garlic
You have probably noticed how fast the garlic produces sprouts. Instead of cutting away the sprouts and throwing them away, take the cloves with the sprouts and plant them. All you need to do is to put them in a pot of soil, expose them to direct sunlight and eventually, you will have new re-grown garlic.
Carrots
Instead of chopping off the ends of carrots and throwing them away, put them in a dish with a little water. Place the dish on a place exposed to sunlight and you will get a carrot tops, ideal for salads or garnish.
Scallions
Scallions are extremely easy to re-grow. All you need to do is to leave an inch attached to the roots and place it in a small glass with a little water. Keep it in a well-lit room and you will get a completely re-grown scallion from the scraps very soon, in as little as 5 days.
