Have you ever tasted the Buttered Saltine Crackers? Me neither, until a couple of weeks ago.. and let’s just say I was left speechless.
In all seriousness, though, have you tried them?
I know it looks a little unusual. Normally, you put other things on your crackers like peanut butter, jam, and even cheese— but butter? Who could imagine everyone’s new favorite snack would be something as simple as buttered saltine crackers?
All right, maybe not everyone is as clueless as I am.
Actually, if you ask your grandparents about buttered saltine crackers, they will probably know what they are. Apparently, this two-ingredient snack is a thing from way back and is still widely consumed. Who would have thought of that?
Here are some of the recipes you can try. The first is pretty straightforward, with butter being the key ingredient, while the other is a little more involved, but very tasty!
Recipe 1: Classic Buttered Saltine Cracker
Ingredients:
Butter. Saltines. That’s it!
How to make it:
We could make this complicated, but we will keep it simple. take your favorite brand of butter (make sure it’s nice and soft), and spread it on your cracker. Tasty!
Recipe 2: Perfectly Bake Buttered Saltine Crackers
This recipe from The Pioneer Woman has a couple more steps than the one before, but I guarantee you it is as good as the one before.
Ingredients:
— Saltine Crackers
— Butter
— Seasoning of your choice
How to make them
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit
Step 2: Add butter to a saucepan and heat on medium-high until you melt the butter.
Step 3: Mix in the seasoning that you prefer. Many people prefer more savory seasonings such as Italian seasoning or some sort of salt blend.
Step 4: take as many saltine crackers as you’d like for a snack and put them into the butter mix. Once the first side is covered in butter, turn them on the other side and then remove them from the pan.
Pro tip: only put as many crackers in the pan as you can manage. Consider the fact that you just want the crackers to be covered in the butter mix, don’t cook them just yet.
Step 5: Once your oven is preheated and the crackers are soaked in butter, place them on a rack on top of a baking sheet.
Step 6: Put the crackers into the oven and bake for approximately 20 minutes.
Pro tip: To avoid burning your crackers, watch them from the moment they’ve been in the oven for around 15 minutes
Step 7: Here they are! Oven-baked buttered saltine crackers!
Enjoy!
